Hi there, welcome to Cafe Yooky.
The kitchen is like a time machine which brings me back to wherever/whenever I want to go back.
I lived in several different places since I was a kid. I was born in Seoul(S. Korea), spent my childhood in London(UK), my teenage years in Tokyo(Japan), Studied and lived in the US and recently lived in France for two years. While I have vivid memories in some places, some I do not have enough memories to linger on. But when it comes to food, I always have clear memories wherever I lived in. So I reminisce my childhood in London over a golden nugget cupcake, the calmness of the narrow streets in Tokyo over skewered sweet rice cakes(mitarashi-dango), the warmth of home over my moms best Korean mung bean pancakes(Nok-doo jeon), the kiss of sunshine in Texas over crispy fried nachos with fresh tomato salsa, and my recent stay in France over the soft smell of freshly baked baguette.
Food memories can come from everywhere. It can be your trip to India where you discover the perfect vegan chickpea curry, or it can also be a book where the author describes something you’ve never tasted before, a simple dish shown on a well made movie, or maybe a blog with incredible quality photos that jumps out from the screen! I too have a bunch of recipes from places I’ve never been or even never tasted before.
So this blog is like my own small memory/taste collection box of food. I believe everyone has their own food memory box and I am just introducing a part of mine to share all the goodness I remember. Happy Cooking 🙂
